Four times NASCAR Sprint Champion, Jeff Gordon driving the PWR Performance Products cooled Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsport has won his first race of the season by taking a close win on the 1.5 mile tri oval at Kansas Speedway.
Gordon held off a charging Kevin Harvick over the final laps to win by a margin of just .112 of a second to become the ninth different winner this season.
By winning, Gordon, who started the race leading the series in points, virtually assured himself a spot in the season ending Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. He now leads the championship by 15 points over Matt Kenseth.
Kasey Kahne, Gordon’s teammate at Hendrick Motorsports, finished third.
